5 Signs That You Need a Personal Trainer.

A personal trainer is an invaluable resource in reaching your HEALTH & fitness goals.

Most people consider personal trainers (PT’s) necessary for two groups of people: those who are new to the gym environment OR those interested in body building or competition prep. However, recruiting a PT either online or in person, could be the best decision you make towards reaching your fitness and health goals. A knowledgeable, dedicated and most importantly passionate PT could be all it takes to help you transform your body and mind and help push you in the right direction. Whether you train with him/her 3 times a week or once a month, everyone benefits from that added support, guidance and motivation.

Personal trainers can provide the following benefits:

TECHNIQUE instruction & COACHING

A Certified Personal Trainer has the knowledge, skills & experience to ensure you complete each exercise with correct form and technique so as to prevent injuries, work with current medical conditions and build muscle/ gain strength/ lose weight, whatever you individual goals are.  If you’re a beginner, you’ll learn how to perform specific exercises and use equipment correctly and safely in a supervised and friendly environment. If you are an avid gym-goer and feel confident within the gym setting and conducting a variety of exercises independently, a PT has the skills to formulate a comprehensive and individualized workout plan by ascertaining your goals, health history, abilities and trying styles also.

Motivation

We ALL have those times when we feel unmotivated, uninspired & feel discouraged towards the gym and our training. A personal trainer knows how to motivate you to get the most out of your workouts and inspire you to keep focused on your goals. A trainer will encourage you to push past your negative thoughts and  self-imposed limits and should challenge you more than you could doing it alone. Perhaps you are just tired of doing the same routine day in-day out? A PT  will bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to challenge both your body and mind. You’ll have a larger repertoire of exercises and be able to have some variety in your training.

Accountability

When you exercise on your own, it’s so easy to skip a set, leave out exercises, workout for less time, skip session or even fall off the wagon entirely! A personal trainer will keep you accountable, as you have scheduled and paid for sessions either with online check ins or ace-to-face. Regular PT sessions may also help you stay accountable with your diet, as your trainer will notice plateaus, gains/losses etc during check-ins. Your PT may also include a review of your diet and an update on your fitness and/or weight-loss progress once a month or as requested, which is a great way to stay focused and constantly have a reason to stay fit.

Plateau-busting advice

Plateaus are almost inevitable fitness your  journey. Our body becomes accustomed to how, what and when we are training and therefore gets  into a comfort zone from doing the same exercises. If your goal is weight-loss and your progress has stalled or you’re not seeing any results, a personal trainer can help you break out of this rut. Your PT will change your routine to challenge your body and mind and help get you out of any weight-loss obstacles or plateaus.

Efficiency

A personal trainer will use a fitness plan to help you maximize results in minimum time, increasing the efficiency of your exercise program. This is especially beneficial if you have limited time to exercise. You’ll focus on results and proper techniques, and not waste your time and energy doing ineffective workouts.

There are many factors such as time, availability, goals and budget, that will determine how often you use a Certified Personal Trainer per week or even month. My suggestion would always be to start off 2-3 times week and taper down to once a week as you become more confident in the gym & start reaching some short term goals. Once you are well on our way to seeing success, progress & changes, I would still encourage you to “check-in” with your trainer once a month (at the very least) so that you are still accountable, motivated and learning new exercises. It is also a great opportunity to ask questions, receive advice and get a spot for some PB’s!

If you haven’t had a trainer in the past but feel that you would benefit from one- be sure to choose someone who fits your personality and is determined to help you reach your goals. You should always feel comfortable and important and of course somewhat inspired by them, their journey or what they have achieved with themselves or other clients.

Invest in yourself!
