After strolling along Cronulla beach; my sister, my friend Ally and I had worked up quite the appetite! We had heard such amazing reviews about Harry & Mario, commonly referred to as HAM so decided to try our luck at getting a table for lunch. On arrival, we took a peek inside at the ultra trendy and extremely busy cafe to find all the inside tables and chairs were taken, so we decided to grab one of the only available tables outside. Considering the venue was packed- we knew the food had to be good!
HAM had a fairly impressive menu and included breakfasts and lunch options. Most of the lunch options were sandwiches, wraps, salads or pies and were already premade and on display inside on their counter. I never know quite how I feel about that- I usually like to build my own sandwich or wrap but to be honest, today I liked it! They were all presented so beautifully and looked scrumptious and I ended up changing my mind due to this.
HAM is a very relaxed and casual setting which required us to get our own water for the table and go up to the counter to order. The best thing about it, is looking at all the delicious breads, lunch options and treats on display. HAM also has a small “deli” type counter where customers can buy fresh produce or containers of their foods/preserves etc to take away.
I ended up ordering a flat white ($4.50) in an attempt to warm up, and I chose the chicken, gruyère and caramelised onion sourdough toastie ($11) for my lunch. The coffee was first to arrive and although small, was delicious. Our lunches came out fairly quickly to the table, although we received very little conversation or attention from our waitress. Although the toastie tasted delicious with the combo of cheese and caramelised onion, I personally feel that it was over priced for the quantity. There was no side salad or any form of garnishes on the plate to accompany it and it was slightly dry (which could be because it was premade also!)
Although I left feeling satisfied, I’m still trying to work out what all the “HAM hype” was all about!
