Wow! A spontaneous and last minute decision to try Jac and the Bean for breakfast this morning was one of the best decisions we’ve made. A girlfriend had the day off, so to enjoy this beautiful weather we decided to drive to Freo for a breakfast date. The two of us are rather indecisive so once again, I relied on Zomato for a suggestion/recommendation. Jac and the Bean came up in the area and after busily stalking their Facebook and instagram pages, we knew we couldn’t go by without giving them a try.

IMG_1922From the minute we arrived, our experience was gold! Available parking right out front, our choice of several vacant tables both in and outside and to top it off smiling, friendly baristas when we walked in.

We chose to sit in the window at the high table and bar stools, overlooking High Street. We went and took a peak in the display cabinet at the counter that was filled with delicious gourmet rolls, tarts and quiches not to mention the incredible variety of raw treats too!

We grabbed a menu and took a seat as deciding was going to be difficult. The lady at the table next to us was devouring the most generous serving of the fluffiest scrambled eggs I’ve seen so I was straight way tempted to go for something warm. I promised myself though that I would try something different. I am such a creature of habit and usually opt for the poached eggs, avocado and salmon on toast! So today I was going to try something a little new and something that was pretty unique to their menu.

I ordered a long black ($3.80) and the Quinoa Breakfast bowl ($13.50) whilst Ally opted for what would have been my next choice, the Mushroom Bruschetta ($17) and a cappuccino ($3.80). Our coffees were served to our table in no time at all and were steaming hot, which exactly the way I like it! Ally’s cappuccino was beautifully presented too!

Shortly after, our meals arrived. We were both very impressed with the presentation, quantity and taste of each of our meals. My Quinoa Breakfast Bowl consisted of a generous serving of red quinoa, sunflower & pepita seeds topped with flaked almonds, chia seeds, sliced banana, strawberries greek yoghurt and honest. It was so pretty to look at the I didn’t want to ruin it by eating it! Once I started though, my goodness was I impressed and so glad that I ordered it! The greek yoghurt, honey and fresh fruit made it sweet enough but not overbearing and it was obvious that the quinoa had been soaked in water perhaps, rather than a sweetened fruit juice. It was amazing and I was so glad I tried something new! Ally was equally impressed with her Mushroom Bruschetta which was mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, thyme, parmesan and a poached egg on top of two slices of thick cut toasted rye. Our only disappointment was that we wanted two poached eggs as not only were they poached to perfection but because there was two pieces of toast, so wanted more! Perhaps we are just greedy!

The boys at the counter was very pleasant and provided us with wonderfully friendly customer service. Although not super busy, Jac and the Bean ran a good trade and continually had people coming in and out for a take away coffee, business meetings or grabbing a quick bite. We ended up staying for a couple of hours to allow us just enough time  to try a fresh juice and order our raw snickers slice to take away!  Next time you’re in Freo, give these guys a go! You will not be disappointed!
