Today, after seeing my surgeon, The American and I stopped in for a late lunch at The Shipping Lane Restaurant in North Fremantle. We were lucky enough to purchase a scoopon voucher a few months ago, so decided to use it today. Due to lack of signage, we would have driven straight past it (thank goodness for Google Maps!) but were happy to jag a FREE parking bay right out front!
We had phoned in advance and booked a table for two, not that we needed too as it was fairly empty when we arrived at around 1.40pm with only 2-3 others tables occupied. We were shown our table and given their brunch and lunch menus. As I had been stalking their instagram and Facebook accounts for a few days prior, I already knew that I was going to treat myself to a naughty treat of the Crispy Potato Stack, only to find that it wasn’t on the menu anymore! Not to worry though as I still had my fall back option of smoked salmon and avocado on toast available. However, The American was adamant that he was going to order the Angus Burger ($23) so I opted for a lunch option also and decided on the Warm Winter Salad with added Lemon & Thyme Chicken ($24).
Although the restaurant was fairly quiet, we still had to wait to wave down the waitress to place our order- although admittedly she did offer to take our order almost immediately after giving us the menus. However, we asked for a few minutes to decide and then found we had to wait and wave for any attention after that. The kitchen staff were much more organised so it seems as our meals came out with a very short waiting time. The Angus Burger for the American came served with bacon, onion jam & homemade sauce, sliced tomato & greens in a brioche bun with a small basket of seasoned fries and aioli dipping sauce, which was a pleasant surprise. My Warm Winter Salad was a combination of roasted vegetables including zucchini, capsicum, beetroot, cous cous, peas, chickpeas and deliciously seasoned chicken.
My meal was delicious, although a little too oily for my liking, and was realistic in serving size. I could have eaten more, but was true to recommended portions which always ensures you leave feeling satisfied and not over full. The American’s burger was juicy and large, exactly what you want from a burger!
As we still had money spare (we had $70 to spend) we ordered two coffees- a long mac and a long black and two muffins to go. We were hoping to enjoy a dessert but were told by the wait staff that they only offer muffins or brownies at lunch time and unfortunately only had muffins left. I have only just finished eating the muffin (mine was honey and banana flavour) and when slightly warmed, was to die for and massive in size- I could only eat half!
All-in-all, we enjoyed our meal at The Shipping Lane, although this could be attributed to the fact that we only paid $35 through Scoopon for $70 value. Would I have been happy with our experience if we had paid in full? Probably not.
My sister swears by the breakfast, so perhaps…just maybe…I MIGHT give it another go in the coming summer months.
