Prince of Wales is located in the beautiful and historic area in Hobart, known as Battery Point. The Prince of Wales Hotel offers accommodation, a front bar, a comfortable lounge and restaurant and will suit all functions, budgets and taste.
We dined in the restaurant and were shown to our seat by our very energetic and helpful waiter. He offered us water to begin and took our drinks choices straight away so that we could enjoy some time looking over the very impressive menu. I had ordered a Tasmanian wine, of which he offered an alternative that he personally liked more. I took his advice and settled for a Pinot Noir. I am so glad I took his advice as it was delicious! The wines were extremely well priced between $7-$10 a glass as opposed to the $10-$18 that we had been paying elsewhere.
On his return, I ordered the Tasmanian Salmon served with an avocado salad tossed in a burnt orange vinaigrette. My company tonight ordered the Stuffed Chicken Breast pocketed with thyme, lemon, ricotta and served with fries and salad.
When our meals were served (and in a timely manner I must mention) neither of us were disappointed. The serving size was generous and the presentation was the perfect picture. Both meals were deliciously tasty, the best salmon I’ve eaten so I made sure that I ate every last crumb!
Although we were completely satisfied with our meal and dining experience at the Prince of Wales Hotel, we could not surpass the dessert menu with the incredible choices that were on offer. We decided to try two different things on the menu. We ordered the sweet potato and pumpkin donuts served with maple syrup and ice cream and the Banana and Walnut Spring Rolls served with strawberries and cream, warm butterscotch sauce and ice cream. These desserts were HUGE. We could have easily have shared one dish and most likely wouldn’t have finished it. We didn’t even get through half of it. They were each very tasty, but just too much food for two little ladies in one serve.
Prince of Wales was a wonderful experience and we most certainly recommend it to anyone travelling to Hobart. It is family friendly, affordable and offered top service and an extensive menu which would certainly have something for everyone!
