After a busy day shopping amongst one of the best outlet shopping malls in LA, we decided to feast at Ruby’s Diner for a late lunch.
The decor was the stereotypical American Diner, which I loved, complete with the old hotted up car as the service counter and the waiters and waitresses wearing the red and cream striped costumes/uniforms. The staff were polite and showed us to our table outside in the beautiful LA sunshine, before bringing us two large lemon waters and lunch menus to look over.
It didn’t take us long to decide what we wanted- after all we were starving!
Scott ordered the cheeseburger which was topped with double cheese-thick slices of pepper jack cheese, bacon and his favourite: pickles! Scott made comment that although it was large and tasty, it did lack flavour and didn’t live up to the typical hype around a diner burger. The fries looked super golden and crunchy, although were unfortunately undercooked!
I ordered the Cobb Salad which was a large plate of chopped garden fresh greens, hard-boiled egg, avocado, freshly roasted, diced turkey breast, tomatoes, mushrooms and black olives with Italian dressing on the side. Unfortunately it looked nothing like the photo on the menu page. Yes- I did ask for no blui cheese or bacon (or the typical ranch dressing) but the presentation was still very unappealing and the turkey was almost non-existent! You would think, considering I put a hold on the other items, they would be a bit more generous with the rest but no! My plate was almost all lettuce and tomato.
We were both very disappointed with our meals and although the service was good, it was not enough to bring us back in the future. I didn’t eat all my meal due to lack of substance and although Scott finished his, he didn’t leave feeling satisfied!
