Today my mum, aunty and I enjoyed lunch at The Tea & Coffee Merchant in Mandurah. Located along the foreshore, this cafe boasts the most amazingly uninterrupted view of the estuary and even on a miserable day like today makes you smile! With a view as captivating as this, we were expecting the prices to be much higher but were pleasantly surprised that most meals ranged between $12 and $19.
The counter displays a selection of sausage rolls, pies, bagels, wraps, pastries and cakes, which I would imagine would be very popular for those wanting a take away lunch! I thought it was nice to be able to view items on the menu before placing you order. The water jug and plastic cups were located opposite the counter and offered “pour-and-go”, which isn’t overly impressive as I drink a lot of water especially when drinking coffee so would have preferred a personal jug for the table. But if that’s all I could complain about, it was going to be a good dining experience!
We sat inside, looking out over the water and glanced over the menu before placing our order at the counter. My mum ordered the BLT ($11) and a flat white ($4), my Aunty opted for the spinach, avocado and tomato filled croissant ($11) and a cappuccino ($4) whilst I went for the spinach and sundried tomato risotto cake with a side salad ($15.50) and a long black ($4).
The service was fast and friendly. Each of the meals were relatively well presented and of a decent portion. The croissant had copious amounts of fresh spinach leaves and it hadn’t been toasted so the leaves, tomatoes, cheese and avocado were just sliced and placed inside. I guess we could have used for it to be toasted, we just assumed it would have been. Never-the-less my aunty enjoyed it. Mum had the BLT and was impressed with the size and even made comment that it was nice to have received it in a toasted fuchsia rather than bread. My risotto cake was hot and delicious. The side salad was substantial, although dressed to heavily (for my liking) in Italian dressing. The sundried tomato chutney was amazing, powerful and perfect!
The coffees were hot and had some creative coffee art on top of the cappuccino, which was a funky touch! We loved out experience and I will definitely return soon for another quick, cheap yet delicious meal.
