Today we skipped our walk outside and instead decided to find a cosy cafe to warm us up after an extremely cold morning. We wanted a delicious big breakfast and endless hot coffee. It was just after 9.30am when we drove towards the iHop. We both decided we might like to try it for breakfast, settling on coffee if there was nothing on the menu that took our fancy. I was expecting the menu to consist of a huge variety of different pancakes and toppings but instead, I was pleasantly surprised by the fairly extensive breakfast options. Not only were there several cooked breakfast options there was also an entire page dedicated to the “Simple and Fit” who wanted a deliciously HEALTHy breakfast. This was for me- it even included the calories and additional nutritional information too, which helps when I generally count macros.
We ordered bottomless coffees for the two of us to enjoy while we glanced over the menu. It was so nice o be seated inside in a large booth. The restaurant was pleasantly heated and the staff were cheery and happy. Our waitress was very patient with us as we continued to turn her away until we had decided!
I chose the Simple & Fit Two Egg Breakfast which consisted of scrambled egg whites, two strips of turkey bacon, two slices of whole wheat toast and a side of seasonal mixed fruit. At under 400 calories and only $7, I was more than happy, especially as I had assumed I would have an unhealthy breakfast of pancakes!
This was also my first taste of turkey bacon! It was delicious and I can’t wait to have it again. I don’t know if we can even get turkey bacon in Australia can we? Either way it was perfectly lean and deliciously good to eat.
Scott ordered the Quick Two Egg Breakfast Sampler which included two eggs cooked any way you like them (he went for sunny side up) PLUS two hickory-smoked bacon strips AND hash browns PLUS a two-stack of pancakes of your choice (Scott chose raspberry & white chocolate). Can you believe he got all that for $7.99?
I’m not going to lie- I most certainly took a bite or two of Scott’s pancakes. They looked absolutely to die for and they flavour was not far behind either. Served with whipped cream, raspberry compote and melted white chocolate drizzled on top, they were sweet and fluffy and everything you wanted in pancakes. I couldn’t believe how generously sized they were, considering they were supposed to be the side! We didn’t even eat them all and there was two of us working on them!
