On our arrival to Ohio, Scott’s brother boasted of an amazing Beer & Wine Cafe in his neighbourhood called “Prost”. He knew of my love for good wine and Scott’s obsession with trying local beer and ciders so thought we would enjoy an after dinner drink here and he was right! We had been wanting to get there for weeks and last night we finally made it! It lived up to the hype and exceeded my expectations.
Prost is located in the newly renovated firehouse in the well-known historical district. It is a quaint and extremely clean place that offers bar, table and booth bench dining for lunch and dinner and everything in between. For a small place, the menu was rather extensive and I’m not just talking about the food! The wine list was two pages long with red, white and sparkling options from all over the country plus Australia, Argentina and beyond! Of course I was drawn to the Cabernet Sav and decided to try a Washington variety, something I hadn’t heard of as opposed to the Californian. The boys could choose from a massive list of beers and ciders which was hand written on a black board by the side of the room and also displayed on the menus. Our gorgeous waitress told us that the black board menu is most up to date as their beers and ciders change very regularly to suit seasons, tastes and their ever generous daily happy hour!.
Now about the food! We had already eaten a massive dinner before leaning home, however after taking a look at the menu- we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share a cheese board for only $13. The cheese board consisted of artisan cheeses (changing daily and listed on the black board by the bar) with assorted nuts, fruits, crackers and bread. There was a large range of paninis, soups, salads and bruschetta- definitely something to suit everyone and every occasion. Oh and the prices? More than reasonable!
After we placed our food order, the waitress told us how everything is made fresh in house and that they only use fresh ingredients from local vendors as well as our own herb garden located directly outside the cafe. I’m looking forward to getting back to Prost in the warmer months to now only check out their herb garden, but to enjoy a wine or two (and possibly another cheese board) in the patio area out front of the venue.
The staff was so welcoming and friendly, especially our waitress who ensured that we were always comfortable and happy- replacing our waters when they were running low and constantly checking if we needed another glass of wine or beer when our previous had run out.
