Today I was lucky enough to enjoy the first official day of school holidays with a teacher friend and a spontaneous trip to Perth! We had a few errands to run earlier on, but by 10am we were starving and decided to treat ourselves to brunch at the ever popular Mary Street Bakery.

To be completely honest, we actually had our hearts set on another cafe close by, but seeing as though it was closed (and we had already searched high and low for a parking!) we decided to give Mary St Bakery a try.

As two health conscious girls, we studied the menu to find two relatively healthy items as most of the menu consisted of fried, cheese filled or sugar laden meals. Although in their defence- it is a bakery so we had to expect it! The American would have died and gone to heaven here with their deef fried chicken and maple syrup topped pancakes! After studying the menu and discussing almost every dish, Ally and I had made our decisions. I chose the Veggie Baked Eggs which consisted of tomatoes, ancho, chilli greens, crispy chickpeas and greek yoghurt ($19) and a skinny flat white ($4) whilst Ally ordered the Kale Manchego Omelette with Toasted Ciabatta ($19) and a skinny cappuccino ($4).

Our coffees and a bottle of water for the table arrived after a short wait and soon after that, our meals were delivered too. Both meals looked incredible and were more than generous in portion size! Neither of us could finish our breakfast and we were really hungry too! We both agreed that they were great value for money although I was a little disappointed mine only had one egg in the mix, two would have been ideal!

I can’t say I was a huge fan of the coffee, which was not only small in size but luke walk and really weak! Luckily my meal made up for it!

After we paid the  bill, we took a peek around the corner at the open kitchen and all the delicious treats and sweets on the counter. I could not fit another thing in, but I was in the market for a donut for my American- unfortunately none were on show today…but there were plenty of delicious slices and muffins to suit any taste buds that’s for sure!

So next time you’re around Beaufort Street, check out Mary Street Bakery for a meal or even a coffee and cake!
