This morning to celebrate a friends very belated birthday, we decided to enjoy breakfast together in the city. We caught the train into the city and enjoyed a morning walk from the station to Highgate along Beaufort Street, until we hit the health conscious cafe called Solomon’s.
We had been desperate to try Solomon’s for quite sometime nows as it boasts healthy meals from local, fresh produce and suits many dietary requirements such as vegan, vegetarian, nut-free, paleo and raw foodists. We arrived at 9.30am (the time we had made the reservation for) only to find the usually busy cafe, rather quiet. The waiter was attentive and brought a jug of water to our table for taking our coffee orders and giving us time to look over the menu.
There were so many delicious items on the menu, however I opted for two poached eggs on toast with a side of grilled mushrooms ($16). Ally chose the raw dehydrated crepes with banana, coconut yoghurt & nectar($19) and Jill went for the “breakfast special of the day” Eggs Benedict ($23).
When our meals arrived, I must admit that I was a little disappointed. They were certainly lacking in portion and even the presentation was careless and seemed rushed. The eggs benedict had very little sauce and none of the toppings had been sautéed or seasoned. My eggs, although perfectly poached, were served on less than toasted “sliced bread” and I wasn’t even asked when I ordered if what bread I wanted, even though the menu offered sourdough or pumpkin paleo loaf!
The service was OK- polite and relatively quick with service etc but lacked personality and professionalism. Would I return to Solomon’s again? Not for breakfast, no. There are so many happening places in Northbridge and surrounds that I would rather go elsewhere where I can get more bang for my buck. I wouldn’t mind returning to trial their dinner menu- but with only a few more weeks left in Perth- I wouldn’t count on it!
