We had such a great meal at Niwa Japanese Kitchen, after our movie on the weekend. We didn’t even know this place existed until we saw their sign right near where we parked our car. As massive Japanese cuisine fans, we decided to give it a go.
We walked into a very cultured setting, with the menu board displayed out the front of the venue, written in broken English with the Japanese translation underneath also. We were greeted by the gorgeous Japanese waitress, who although seemed to be the only waitress there and run off her feet, was very polite and accommodating to all of their guests.
After looking over the menu we decided on the combination sashimi platter ($15?) to share as our entrée. The American opted for the Bento Box ($22) for his main whilst I ordered a small serve of Chicken Udon Noodles ($8).
It was obvious that the produce was fresh as the sashimi melted in your mouth. We were impressed with the selection of sashimi and the fast service. The American’s bento box was over flowing with sushi, salad, tempura vegetables and teriyaki beef and a miso soup too which was well worth the price. My udon noodles was more than generous for a small serving and I left feeling satisfied and full. (Although it was so delicious I would have eaten a large had I of ordered it!)
This tiny little Japanese restaurant was very popular with the locals and an absolute hidden gem in Rockingham. We noticed that it was BYO too so is the perfect place to dine with a group of friends. We will be back for certain.
