Stepping Up for MS.

In exactly one month from today, on Sunday the 7th of June, I will be participating in the Enerflex Step Up for MS. I will be climbing all 1,103 steps (53 floors) to the top of Perth’s tallest building, Central Park... not just once but twice! I ambitiously (or foolishly) signed up for the "Double Up" challenge with a girlfriend as part of the Stadium Fitness team.Although I do love a challenge and of course, love all things fitness related - I was compelled to enter this event in order to raise money and awareness for Western Australians living with MS.Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common degenerative neurological condition diagnosed in young adults (people aged 20-40) and affects more women than men at a ratio of 3:1It affects the Central Nervous System (brain, spinal cord and optic nerve). The body’s own immune system appears to attack the protective sheath of fatty protein, called myelin, which surrounds the nerves in the brain, spinal cord and the optic nerve. Although there is no cure yet, there are medications available to reduce the frequency and severity of relapses.I have set a personal target of raising $1000 for this event and soon I will begin my fundraising by selling healthy treats within my staff room at school, with all proceeds going to the MS Society of WA.All funds raised from this year's Enerflex Step Up Event for MS will go towards providing vital care and support services to people living with MS, and their families.
