I'm so often asked about what my option is in regards to eating before a workout. Do I? Don't I? And if so, what do I suggest?Just recently, I wrote about fasted cardio, which expresses my opinion and beliefs about getting in a low intensity, steady state workout prior to eating in the morning for 20-30minutes. Yes- I do feel that this is a no fail plan for those wanting to burn fat, but is not always idea for those wanting to build muscle. Therefore, although a reasonable question...the answer is not as simple and straight forward.1. It depends on your fitness goals and2. it depends on what exercise/training you are partaking in.Obviously fuelling up correctly before certain workouts is very important and to be honest is basically my reason for staying so motivated and on track with my eating. I know that if I nourish my body correctly (not only with healthy clean foods but with ENOUGH food) my workouts will be better, I will feel stronger and more determined knowing that I am on the right track. Even though you may be tempted to skip the calories, if you are training early in the morning...do your body a favour and EAT! Not eating before a heavy, long or intense workout can result in low blood sugar, dizziness and fatigue. Eating well will maximise your energy, your workout and ultimately, YOUR GAINS!

BEST PRE-WORKOUT FOODS:

(eat 30-60mins prior to working out to allow time for digestion)

  • Medium banana & 1/2 cup greek yoghurt

  • 1/2-1 cup oats

  • Wholegrain slice of bread with honey or peanut butter (or better yet, a sliced boiled egg)

  • 1/2 scoop protein shake with berries & greek yoghurt
