What made you move from Australia to Ohio?

“Yᴏᴜ’ʀᴇ Aᴜsᴛʀᴀʟɪᴀɴ? Wʜᴀᴛ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴏʀʟᴅ ᴍᴀᴅᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ᴍᴏᴠᴇ ᴛᴏ Oʜɪᴏ?”The short version is this: In late 2013, one of my boys (I taught 7th grade) asked if we could have a baseball clinic at school. My reply was “I know nothing about baseball, if you can find someone who will come in for a clinic, I support that!” Conveniently, Jack (the boy in 7th grade) was playing baseball for a local team & his coach happened to be an American import playing ball in Australia & was delighted to come in to train. So, a few phone calls later & Scott arrives to teach a baseball session to 32 kids in my class! And well, the rest is history! The long story? In October 2013 an American baseball player came & hosted a clinic with my class. Prior to meeting him, we had only spoken by phone (in fact we played phone tag for a good few weeks) & I swore he said his name was Scout! (American accent & a name like Scout, please tell me he is handsome too) When he came in to coach, he had this positivity & energy about him that demanded attention & respect. He was patient & generous and brought each of the kids a small wooden baseball bat for them to keep! How kind. We added each other on Facebook but we didn’t really connect until in some uncanny, unexpected shift in our individual lives, our worlds collided. We took it in turns to organize fun outings & soon realized that we both liked the same things: paddle boarding, trampoline parks, sushi picnics, beach runs & ocean swims. It was in 2014 that I started seeing the world in color. Because of Scott: his wisdom, his adventurous spirit, his self confidence & his ability to challenge, inspire & influence me... I became the greatest version of myself. So when he was ready to come home after spending almost 10 years abroad... I very “unlike me” followed my heart. And here I am!
